Auto Supplies
Auto supplies are a multi-billion dollar industry worldwide. Whether you’re ordering factory replacement piston heads from your dealership or you’re picking up a set of fuzzy dice from the gas station you are tapping into that market. With the huge array of automobiles and even larger variety of people who drive them, it’s little surprise that there is so much available to customize or fix up your car.
Some auto supplies are factory or dealership only devices. These usually have a good reason for being so restrictive, such as keys. If you could go to the corner auto parts store and pick up a key for any car; it would defeat the purpose of having a key… that is to keep people who don’t own your car out of it. Other things are factory specific because they are unique to that make and model of car. Things like flip-open headlights are not standard issue on cars and you’ll likely have to talk to your dealership to get replacements should yours fail.
Other auto supplies can be found from just about any source. Air and oil filters for example are made by many companies that specialize in reproducing auto parts for your vehicle. They offer a catalogue where you look up your make, model, and year and provide you with a part number. Then you just find the part off the shelf and voila, you’re good to go. On brand new lines of cars, these parts usually have a delay of 6-12 months before they hit the shelves, so if you need anything replaced in that time frame you’ll need to see your dealership.
